April 30, 2007 - Wisconsin Point |
Wisconsin Point: Any spring trip out to Wisconsin Point will likely reward you with some sort of wildlife viewing. Early morning is the best. You will see many species of ducks, geese, pelicans, swans and herons. On this morning the swans and pelicans were too far away to capture so I settled for this blue heron. Herons seem to be beautiful and awkward at the same time.

April 25, 2007 - Lake Superior Sunrise |
JACKPOT: Occasionally I like to stop for coffee in Canal Park and catch the sunrise. On this beautiful morning I was surprised at how few people were out enjoying this with me. A young couple captured this picture shortly after I did. I watched as they returned to their car staring at their point and shoot cameras screen like it was a winning lottery ticket. I enjoy people that enjoy their pictures. I've run into some pretty snooty photographers who thought they were Ansel Adams and that the rest of us should just stay out of the way. I've also run into some wonderful people both professional and amateur who were more than happy to exchange ideas and information. For me this inter-action just adds to the enjoyment of photography. With this in mind I have two pieces of advice I'd like to share. Don't be shy, you just might learn something and develop new friendships. Secondly, keep shooting, there's plenty of pictures to go around. Living in the northland is like looking at the winning lottery ticket every day!

| April 18, 2007 - Chipmunk in the Wood pile |
While I was out at the cabin I took this beautiful picture of my wood pile....... Just kidding! If your as bored as I am waiting for spring to burst out all over, play a little seek and find with this picture. Look for the chipmunk that was scurrying about trying to find left-over acorns.

| April 08, 2007 - Bald Eagles |
Many of our local eagles fly south in the winter in favor of the open waters along the Mississippi. I found these on my way to our lake cabin near Iron River. It's hard to say whether these were ones that stayed all winter or early returnees. They were very cooperative and seemed reluctant to move due to the deer carcass just inside the tree line. Why is it I can get wildlife to pose easier than humans?

| April 01, 2007 - Harbor Scenes |
Harbor Scenes: I could spend countless hours wandering around the harbor even though Homeland Security is making it harder these days. I understand and endorse these new measures. There's been a flurry of activity lately. It's nice to see the ships making their way around the harbor and out onto the lake. They've had a lot of help. Such as the tug Susan Hoey breaking ice along the Superior grain elevators. The North Carolina and North Dakota are shown waiting to escort a laker once it cleared the lift bridge. Last weeks little ice storm couldn't stop the bustling port or me from going about our business. The canal park bench was just one of many things decorated in icicles. The long ship passed just close enough to Brighton Beach to capture an icy image. There's so much activity, so little time and now, so many rules.
