| Two celebrations took place last week, Grand Marais' Fishermen's Picnic and National Lighthouse Day which was celebrated nationwide. At Fishermen's Picnic we watched the evening fireworks. I made an error in judgment in where to sit. I wanted to get the reflections of the fireworks in the calm waters of the bay. We decided to sit on the beach in front of the campground. When the fireworks started I found they were so high that I couldn't get the both the fireworks and reflections in the frame at the same time. We were way too close. I was disappointed but then chose to just aim the camera high and get the fireworks overhead. We were close enough that the fireworks were almost directly overhead and made for some pretty awesome views. One of the photos captured two explosions that make the photo appear like it was taken from outer space of a distant galaxy that was being invaded by space creatures.
The second photo was taken on Tuesday night when the Split Rock Light was lit in celebration of National Lighthouse Day. This is a timed exposure so it makes the movement of the water appear as ground fog moving in. Several park visitors sat on the beach enjoying the peaceful evening watching the Split Rock Light illuminate the magic of Lake Superior.
